An invisible Miss India – Sarah Jane Dias
Either I am growing old and obsolete or the craze for Miss India has come down tremendously for I hadn’t heard of Sarah Jane Dias until the other day, when someone mentioned a long list of Miss Indias ranging from Nutan to Meher Castalino (then Meher Mistry) to Reita Faria (first Miss India to win the title of Miss World in 1966) to Mumtaz, Zeenat Aman, Naina Balsaver and Swaroop Sampat.
The names that added to the list were Sangeeta Bijlani, Pamella Bordes (then known as Pamela Singh), Juhi Chawla, Sonu Walia, Mehr Jessia, Madhu Sapre, Pooja Batra, Namrata Shirodkar, Aishwarya Rai, Sushmita Sen, Priya Gill, Manpreet Brar, Diana Hayden, Nafisa Joseph, Yukta Mookhey, Gul Panag, Diya Mirza, Priyanka Chopra, Lara Dutta, Celina Jaitley, Neha Dhupia and Tanushree Dutta.
But none of us could remember the new Miss India 2007! Surprising, isn’t it. So I googled it and found that Miss Sarah Jane Dias is our girl, who stands tall at 5′ 9″ and has a gorgeous figure of 35-27-37. Well, the credentials stated were strong too. She won Miss India Oman title at the age of 14 and was the host of the supermodel hunt program ‘Get Gorgeous’ of Channel [V].
Well, the program did rub off some of the glamour dust on to this diva as she confidently catwalked to the title of Miss India at the age of 24. However, like many models and former Miss Indias before her, she too will fade or perhaps will never register in public mind until she proves her mettle in Miss World contest 2008.
Despite the achievements of former Miss Indias, Sarah hasn’t received much media attention yet and if she wants to be in the spotlight, she will have to work really hard. Good Luck Sweety!
I was just wondering what happened to Sarah Jane and searched google to only find your post on her that is new.
The reason why I was searching for Sarah Jane and why she stuck in my mind was the fact that the Miss India she won was fixed.
Yes it was. I had even uploaded a youtube video which showed that when Cyrus(the Mtv VJ and Host of the show) was announcing the winner, he goes ” and the winner…” and everyone including sarah Jane(and me) thought that the next words are going to be the winners name, but he went on to say “of the 2007 blah blah is”.
When I mean everyone it included the camera man too cause when cyrus says winner he shifts the camera to the Sarah Jane and the 2 girls, this is where you see that Sarah Jane looks up to the two girls(who are still looking down) with a suprised(the fake wow I won) look on her face and when Cyrus does no announce her name. She panics she glances a look at the crowd(to see if anyone has seen her do that) and then very quickly recovers and looks down(she realised that was not the best thing to do) and then closes her eyes shut so hard(which was also a giveaway) and then when her name is announced she does the whole stepping back in shock thingy.
Coninidently I was watching Cyrus interview of the candidates the day before. Cyrus when interviewing Sarah Jane, makes a very good observation which was very true, he goes on to ask/tell her that she is not at all nervous. When He says that it was pretty obvious all the candidates were excited but Sarah Jane was just calm. This is all day before I was noticing that she is not that thin like other models. 27 is a huge waste(29 actually cause they all tuck their stomachs in when measuring the waste). I am not saying that models should be skinny, but as far as my knowledge goes once you are selected for Miss India, they then train and you and the training also includes a massive weight loss program, which you can actually see on other candidates except Sarah. She just looks like she got up from her sleep and walked to the competition the day before.
Oh coming to the point, when Cyrus asks her why she was not nervous, she replies in hindi that “mujhe adar se malum hai” which means I know from “inside”(she meant inside her heart). Cyrus the funny guy that he is replies back saying “oh so you already know from “inside” which means inside news or backstage news. To which there was a pretty awkward moment. Maybe cyrus was just being funny or maybe he knew this thing was fixed and got a chance to pass a comment on it. Also the fact that they are both from rival music channels.
I typed such a long comment cause I feel that somewhere you get interested and would want to expose such a fixing.
I think I am not the only one who knows, there a few more who have been “silenced”(not in a sinister way) and I think Sarah and the Miss India decided that it is better that Sarah does not become famous. If she had got famous obviously I and everyone who knows would have seen her on the news and would have tried to expose this whole fiasco. It would not be good for the Miss India competition too.
So that is why you dont see her.
